Discipleship: Phase 1: Foundations - The Lordship of Jesus
I hope you are finding our study helpful.
So far we have went through Who is God, Who are we, Who is Jesus, and Why did Jesus Come
This next topic is about the Lordship of Jesus.
The questioning that Jesus goes through with the man is just amazing. "....what good thing must I do to get eternal life?" - the man asks in the book of Matthew. Jesus' response is that "There is only ONE who is good." Jesus corrects the man's assumption by saying that there is no one who is good except God alone. In other words, if he is hoping to get to heaven based on being good, he has really fallen short.
The man presses harder on Jesus about what to do. Jesus names some of the commandments and the man basically says.....check....did it. Jesus then says sell everything and follow me. Then the young man was sad because he had great wealth.
The lesson goes on by teaching ways to remember the ten commandments. Its really cool. In the process of learning that, we find that in the conversation with the man, Jesus specifically leaves out the commandments that pertain to loving God. The reason we find about Jesus leaving them out is........ I will leave you in suspense. You have to check it out.......JESUS IS AWESOME at dealing with people.
Why didn't the man give up his possessions? As long as possessions remained the most important thing to him, then God could never take that spot. What is in your life that is keeping God in your back seat and not in the driver seat?
The message I find here is that many times we can be superficial in our worship, superficial in our prayer time, superficial in our "work" in His name, and even superficial in our relationships. If we don't get down to why we wouldn't remove the obstacles in our way to make God first, the Lord of our life, and the true savior......then we may find ourselves in for a major disappointment on the day of judgement.
The world teaches us the opposite of what the Christian life promises. Lets be honest. The Christian walk isn't promised to be comfortable, wealthy, or even respected by others. It's not an easy decision to follow Jesus. Many act as such and make light of it, but it extracts a cost and a true surrender. Jesus asked the teacher who wanted to follow him.........are you willing to have enough faith to pick up and leave and trust that there will be a place to lay his head tomorrow? Would you be ready?
I love the next lesson. "Let the dead bury their own dead".........seriously.......your Dad dies and Jesus says....let someone else figure that out. This really does center our priorities. Jesus is saying that giving spiritual LIFE with the message of LIFE takes priority over worldly things. Death is worldly, death is a result of sin. Jesus came to conquer sin and death and promises something way better and eternal.
Matthew 10:32-39 is really a test. Take some time and read it. It truly forms the mindset we should have on Christ. We all have our callings and it calls us to that true surrender. What parts in this are hard for you to accept?
Following Christ's example is dying to self and embracing the will of God, whatever the cost.
Why don't we surrender our lives?
2 reasons are mentioned: Pride and Fear - we want to be in control and we distrust that Jesus will meet our needs or he might lead us out of our comfort zone. It really comes down to the question......What is God's true love for me?
When you fully remove pride and then build trust. There is no problem that is too great for Him to solve, no enemy that is too strong for Him to defeat, no need that is too desperate for Him to meet.
When you get here - you can declare Jesus as the OWNER of your life. He can do whatever he wants with it. It is HIS. Declaring Jesus as Lord is a huge step in faith. Trust that he is Holy, Just, and he Loves you fully.
My life has witnessed both sides of trying to do things myself and letting God do things. When God does it, its much better. When we think we know best, God knows better. When we think we know when, God knows better. When we think we know how, God knows better. When we think we know why, God knows better. So give it up......HE KNOWS. He is with you right now.......and KNOWS BETTER!
Lord, may you strip us of our pride, release us from our fear. Take over our life Lord. Refuse to give up on us. Deliver us from ourselves. Take our lives and make us yours.....is my humble prayer.

It will provide direction over the next year through a wonderful system. We look forward to sharing it with you here. We hope you will take the journey with us. ~Telling the Story~ Some time ago, a friend of mine and his wife visited a major Maui tourist attraction called The Road to Hana. It comprised a long and winding road that, over the course of hours, took them through breathtaking scenery, waterfalls, cliffs, mountains, and beaches. At the end, there was nothing but the small town of Hana, with one gas station. When they finally arrived, my friend’s wife was very upset. She said, “We drove all of this way for this?” She missed the point. The Road to Hana is about the journey, not the destination. Don’t make the same mistake with The EOS Process. The journey of building a great business is not about the destination at all. Of course, you...

Business Tips : TRACTION (EOS – Entrepreneurial Operating System) Our management is implementing a new system called “Traction”. It will provide direction over the next year through a wonderful system. We look forward to sharing it with you here. We hope you will take the journey with us. ~Traction~ The vision is clear, the right people are in the right seats, data is managed, you’re solving issues, you have defined your way of doing business and everyone is following it. Creating accountability, discipline and execution is where most weakness reveals itself. Traction is the ability to take a visionaries head out of the clouds and place it into clear action. Many are held back for the fear of creating discomfort, but with each hard step towards systematic success, things become straightforward even with contingencies and the tremendous peace of traction. From no accountability, poor communication, stagnation, chaos you will find just the opposite with traction. Accountability...
