15 Invaluable Laws of Growth
Our
management is doing a new study on the John Maxwell curriculum with the book
called the 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth. We recommend you pick up a copy or
listen to it online if you have the technology to do so. We will be exploring
these laws as a team this year.
The
goal in the study is to help each of us learn how to grow and develop ourselves
so we have the best chance of becoming the person we were created to be.
~ The Law of the Mirror ~
You must see value in yourself to add value
to yourself. You will not give yourself time to grow if you think you are not
worthy of it.
The “leadership lid” also works in
the area of self-image. If from one to ten, my self-image is a three, what I’m
able to accomplish will be a two.
I have never seen anyone
consistently rise above their self-image and be successful. In fact I have
watched many people who have had success beyond their self-image and I’ve watched
them literally sabotage themselves because they didn’t feel comfortable - because
they didn’t believe that they were that good themselves.
How do you
build your self-image?
·
Guard your self-talk-the damage done by others
isn’t near the damage you do to yourself
·
Add value to others – lose yourself by giving
yourself to others
·
Do the right thing even when it’s the hard
thing because RIGHT ACTION = RIGHT EMOTION
·
Everyday, get a win – look at your schedule
and ask yourself what I am going to today that is going to get me a win

Tips:
~ Resolution 3: Attitude ~
RESOLVE TO: To Have a Positive Attitude in All
Situations
Positive
and Negative Voice tellers – you have both negative and positive
voices in your head, you can’t totally turn off the negative one, but you do
have the volume control. Develop the ability to turn it down or hit mute from
time to time
Reframing
- A person can change either the content or the context of a
situation by reframing how he thinks about it. Robertson said, “Content
reframing is changing the meaning of a behavior to help you see the good side
and appreciate the otherwise unlovely character. Context reframing is finding a
way to make an event or behavior to be represented in such a way that it would have
value no matter how negative you think it might be.”
Pulling
Negative Weeds -When a person listens to his negative voice or
another person’s negative voice, he develops negative thinking, which
germinates in his mind similarly to weeds growing in a garden. Weeds are
negative viewpoints, attaching themselves to a person’s thinking, blocking good
ideas from taking root. They (negative thoughts) can sneak into his mental
garden, and they must be pulled immediately. If allowed to grow, they become
stronger, developing root systems in his thinking patterns, making eradication
difficult. They create “stinking thinking,” producing negative attitudes and
selfish behaviors, which prohibit the growth of fruits in his life.
Long term versus
Short Term Perspectives - Why let negativity seep into our
hearts especially when we don’t know the long-term results of current events?
Why do so many people get worked up, assuming everything is going against them,
when actually, obstacles are blessings in disguise? Since human beings cannot
know the beginning from the end, wisdom dictates that they reframe the events
of life with a positive mind-set, empowering themselves to see the
opportunities in every challenge rather than just the challenges in every opportunity.
John Wooden’s Second set on Attitudes
1.
Never whine -Winners
don’t whine and whiners don’t win.
2.
Never complain - By
complaining about others, a person feels less responsible to fix his own
problems.
3.
Never make excuses - Leaders
find reasons to win; others find excuses to lose.
Develop a
thankful spirit - It’s hard to have a negative attitude when
a person views his life through the lens of thankfulness.
By demonstrating character consistently, trust
is the fruit of that consistent labor.

Orrin. RESOLVED: 13 Resolutions for LIFE
Life Skills:
Faith, Family, Fitness, Finances, Friends, Fun,
Following, Freedom; we call these the 8F’s in life.
Many of these categories can tell one where their
priorities are in life by measuring the time one would spend in one of the
above categories. I know we don’t have it all figured out, but we have a lot of
great sources that speak into these items and we welcome your comments. Please
feel free to drop us a line concerning any of them.
THE DAILY DOZEN
This year we are going to
use this concept to explain 1 word per month that if made into a habit, we
believe your life will, no doubt, improve.
WALK
Do something physically active every day. In doing this
your body will reward you with energy and capacity reserves when you need it
the most. Figure out a way to increase your physical capacity so that your body
can operate as it is meant to.
Notable quotes: They are italicized above.
Something I
want you to know:
Your self-image, attitude, and exercise can
drastically change your daily life. Find a way to make them habits of growth.
