INFLUENCE
The capacity to have an effect on the
character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect
itself
John Maxwell says “Leadership is
influence – nothing more, nothing less.”
So the question becomes, how can
I gain influence? You can either borrow it or earn it. In most cases leaders
borrow it before they earn it. That’s the way it has been in my life. As a
young man, no one trusted me, no one believed me, and the circle of influence
that I was running in didn’t lead to any borrowing of it…..no one had any. So
when it came to influencing others that had more influence than I, I had to use
someone else’s.
A couple notes - borrowed
influence cannot be shared, it’s like a bank note and it is owned by the
lender. However, earned influence is like money in the bank you can spend.
I go on this way to describe to
you the power of influence. An influencer enlarges people, they help them
navigate, they connect, empower, and they reproduce other leaders just to name
a few of their actions.
Why would you want influence?
It’s a currency of leadership. In our world today we are either empty in our
ability to change our world or we are actively building our influence to be a
force for good in the world.
Which are you?

3. How we can prepare for our
own eventual deaths?
o Understand what we will all face: If Hebrews tells us
