An unexpected gift tonight has prompted me to write a quick note of thanks for my Aunt. She has an amazing gift in crafting beautiful stained glass structures, Tiffany's, and many other items. This one being the beautiful church I remember seeing for the first time a few years back. I forget exactly how it came about, but I distinctly remember seeing this piece and mentioning to take it back home to my place one day.
Well the day has come, all the way from the east coast it arrived packaged in bubble wrap greeting an astounded nephew. I found it hard to even touch it for fear of harming such an awesome creation. So I am indebted to a visit out east after this, no doubt. I could never repay the wonderful gift she has given, let alone the time and effort it took to even learn the craft in the first place. I love you.
While I sat and thought about it on the way home. I realized how ironic the term "stained glass" hit my logical mind. Normally something "stained" leads to a desire to get something unstained. It also makes us think of things that are not whole or impure, marked, or deformed in some way. How symbolic is it that my Aunt can take something stained and turn it into a work of art like this?! So similar is it of the master's hand in our lives. We come to our Lord stained, full of imperfection, and not whole. Yet we receive the craft of our Lord that turns us into a masterpiece if we can mold and bend to stretch and fit such a beautiful compilation of a pattern.....a life well lived. The term stained glass should be something unwanted, but yet it is desired by many as a beautiful decorative art. Well the headlines are in......so is your life, it to can look like something unwanted by others and even to yourself, but to God, you life is like that beautiful decorative art no matter how stained it is.
I pray that you will think on your life this evening. Think on the things that have stained you, but God has turned them into yet another beautiful pattern. Maybe you are right in the middle of being "stained" right now. Maybe you can't see past the stain. I hope this picture brings you peace tonight as it is a small example of how the imperfect can become whole once again with the craft of the master's hand.
God Bless you tonight.
