IN REMEMBRANCE OF CHUCK BURKETT:
I am still shocked to hear of a good friend meeting the end of his journey on the earth with us. I can't get out of my head the scripture in James that talks of how life is a vapor and that we are not meant to physically sustain this life. We are so fragile and we are just here temporarily. Chuck's family I am sure is in turmoil over the loss and will be stricken with great sorrow for some time. I can't imagine burying a son, brother, or sister at such a young age. However, I can't forget how blessed we have been to share this life with Chuck for 32 years, some of us longer and some of us not so long. Through it all his smile echoes the life he has left behind. He did it right. He would help anyone with anything and just smile in return. His craftsmanship with vehicles set him apart from many others. Not only could he light you up with a smile, but fix your broken down problems with those magic hands.
I couldn't get these words out of my head. Its a popular song that has given me comfort in times that jolt us from reality. You know...those times when you just can't stop thinking of what we take for granted. Chuck is a life that will be missed, but not at all forgotten and yet another example of a life well lived.
There’s a place of quiet stillness ‘tween the light and shadows reach
Where the hurting and the hopeless seek everlasting peace
Words of men and songs of angels whisper comfort bittersweet
Mending grief and life eternal where joy and sorrow meet
There is a place where hope remains
In crowns of thorns and crimson stains
And tears that fall on Jesus’ feet
Where joy and sorrow meet
There’s a place the lost surrender and the weary will retreat
Full of grace and mercy tender in times of unbelief
For the wounded there is healing, strength is given to the weak
Broken hearts find love redeeming where joy and sorrow meet
There’s a place of thirst and hunger where the roots of faith grow deep
And there is rain and rolling thunder when the road is rough and steep
There is hope in desperation there is victory in defeat
At the cross of restoration where joy and sorrow meet
