Business Tips:

TRACTION (EOS – Entrepreneurial Operating System)

Our management is implementing a new system called “Traction”. It will provide direction over the next year through a wonderful system. We look forward to sharing it with you here. We hope you will take the journey with us.

~ LMA – Leading, Management, and Accountability~

  • care about the people you are leading and managing
  • clarify the major functions of your organization and select the right leader to drive and manage each function
  • decide – indecision isn’t an option
  • be all in – all 100% on the same page, sharing common values, a common purpose (your why) and a common thing you do to make the world a better place (your what).

One more point before we get to the mechanics of how to lead and manage more effectively.

As leaders and managers, we often tell people what to do – assign work – and expect the work to be done. We expect people to be accountable. When things don’t get done as expected, we may default to punishments or rewards to try to make our people more accountable. These rarely work to improve performance.

Great Leadership + Great Management = Accountability.

In other words, accountability is the outcome or product of leaders and managers doing specific things. There are hundreds of books out there to suggest what those specific things are. At EOS Worldwide, we condense everything to 5 things a person must do to be a great leader and 5 things a person must do to be a great manager.

Personal Tips:

~ Get your creative wheels turning with music~

"As a CMO, I'm always looking to nurture my creative thinking. It's an essential part of the job. One habit that boosts my creativity is playing music. Whether it's the guitar or the piano, I play an instrument every day. I never use sheet music, just hit a few notes and go with the flow. This is also a fantastic way to unwind after a busy day. To me, it's like meditation."

--Marcel Hollerbach, board member and CMO of Productsup, a company that powers more than 800 businesses worldwide, including five Fortune 20 companies, to push product data to shopping, marketing, and business channels

Tools & Tech I am using:

~Dreaming”

This has been a practice of mine for a really long time. It started with a “100 list”. Someone many years ago had convinced me to start writing things down that God could give me to enjoy and things I could do to enjoy His creation. I think I remember getting to about 20 and I started writing stuff like another pair of black socks…..lol. Many of you are natural dreamers and some are not, so the task can vary in complexity based on your tendency.

I highly encourage the practice though. Take your best friend or spouse out to “date” your dream. Touch it, feel it, plan for it, decide what goal you will need to hit to get it. Take time and frequent time at developing a working relationship toward the call on your life to a worthwhile dream. The unashamed and unbiased pursuit of something that is worthwhile is noble. When you achieve one, don’t stop chasing as it pulls you forward in a positive direction with momentum to effect change on those around you due to your commitment.

Life Skills:

Resilience (Head in the sky, Feet on the ground)

A healthy balance between Principles and Pragmatism.  Get good at ignoring the little things.  Don’t wrestle with pigs.  You will get dirty, you will lose and the pig enjoys it.

Self Motivation, Self Esteem, Self Belief

You see what you are looking for.  Ask the right questions.  Change “why does this happen to me?” to “What am I grateful for today?”

Get good at motivating yourself.  We are not computers – we are neurons floating in a sea of hormones and we need to be careful what hormones we let flood our brain – it will change what we see and believe

Notable quotes: They are italicized above.

Galatians 3:26

For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.

1 Corinthians 12:27

Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it..

John 15:15

No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.

Something I want you to know:

Understand LMA, listen to music, dream, be resilient, self-motivated, have high self esteem, and self-belief.
