Business Tips : EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE When emotional intelligence first appeared as a buzz phrase in 1995, it made us aware of the missing link in a peculiar finding: people with average IQs outperform those with the highest IQs 70% of the time . This obviously shook up the psychologist’s balance of what “SMART” means. The capacity to be aware of, control and express one's emotions and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically is one definition. Another…. “Emotional intelligence is your ability to recognize and understand emotions in yourself and others, and your ability to use this awareness to manage your behavior and relationships.” It’s made up of 4 skills: ·          Self-Awareness  is your ability to accurately perceive your emotions and stay aware of them as they happen. ·          Self-Management  is your ability to use awareness of your emotions ...

Business Tips : LEADERSHIP       Leadership is both an art and a science. It is an art in which we develop the character within ourselves to become someone of influence. The science of leadership is the theory and exacting methods that prove to work in our ability to discipline and hone ourselves into a person of leadership.       Within the subject of leadership we often talk about character, task, and relationship as a three legged stool in the measurement in our ability to support and stabilize our leadership strength. Where one of these variables fall short, so does the structural integrity of the stool and our leadership ability. We can spend much time on each of these, but suffice it to say that if we honestly measure these in our lives it can determine failure modes that are causing us pain. It can also help us course correct our journey. How are our character traits, ability to perform tasks, and the relationships that we...

Business Tips : CHARACTER The definition I speak of is moral excellence and firmness. Character is a habit of will. It becomes a skill and a discipline that when exercised it becomes stronger. This is based in the right and wrong of integrity, which you can study. Character is not just being good and not being bad. Character is standing in and doing something rather than standing idle when wrong is being done. It isn’t just knowing the difference or being a character, but holding the line for others also. Your example in your daily speech and action exemplifies character that others can use to get better. A man or woman of character is said to be the straight line that others measure themselves against. Just as Jesus did, so you can live a character led live. Things that can distract from this may be pleasure, lust, etc. There are many references, the Bible, Launching a Leadership Revolution – Woodward/Brady, Resolved – Woodward/Brady, Character Counts - Dyer and more historical ...

OCTOBER 2017

Business Tips : ·          Do the time – no one succeeds immediately, everyone was once a beginner, Steve Jobs – “if you look closely, most overnight successes took a long time.” ·          Learn from mistakes – failure is not final, and you have wasted a good screw up if you don’t learn from it – use mistakes and failures as free lessons on your journey to success Personal Tips: ·          Educate  – Our jobs are not to just work for a paycheck, but to become better through our education in what each one of us do. When education shows up in better results, we should expect to progress in position, pay, and prosperity. Be on the search on both how you can educate yourself on something new and teach someone in your team someth...
